Description from the seller
Polychrome porcelain casket is a refined 19th-century artifact linked to the famous production of the Ginori manufactory in Doccia.
This type of object, produced primarily in the second half of the 19th century (about 1860-1890), revives the decorative relief type historically defined as "alla Capodimonte." The reliefs were originally introduced and developed by the Carlo Ginori factory in Doccia as early as 1737, later becoming a distinctive feature reproduced with great success throughout the entire 19th century.
The container, oval in shape and with a lid, the central body is historiated with reserves enclosed by foliate volutes and gilding, inside which mythological scenes come to life in bas-relief, finely hand-painted in polychromy. The lid is decorated with small putti or cherubs in relief alternating with garlands, while the upper part features a plastic triumph of classical figures. The two side relief handles of the casket are molded in the form of a goat’s head (or ram).
Under the base is the cobalt blue mark under glaze. Although partially covered by residues and stains of dirt or ancient glue, in the upper part the characteristic five-point crown can be discerned, under which the letter "N" is glimpsed. This is the historic "alla Capodimonte" mark. From 1868, Marquis Lorenzo Ginori chose to officially apply it to Doccia to mark pieces of excellence produced with historiated reliefs and mythological motifs, referencing the famous molds of the Neapolitan Bourbon manufactory acquired decades earlier.
Good condition, normal signs of time and wear.
The dimensions are:
Height: about 14 cm
Length: about 21 cm
Depth: about 12 cm
Weight: 1.2 kg
I see photos for the condition and measurements.
I do not ship outside the European Community.
The lot will be carefully packed and shipped in a reinforced polystyrene box.
