Rated Excellent on Trustpilot.
Three-volume French medical work by Docteur Civiale, Traité pratique des maladies génito-urinaires, issued by J.-B. Baillière in Paris around 1850–1851, bound in demi‑cuir with marbled boards, in excellent condition and including folding plates totaling about 1,728 pages with sections on urethral, bladder neck/prostate, and bladder body diseases.
Description from the seller
This is the second edition, significantly enlarged, as indicated on the title pages.
The work is divided into three parts:
Volume I: diseases of the urethra.
Volume II: diseases of the bladder neck and the prostate.
Volume III: diseases of the body of the bladder.
Important medical illustration including large folding anatomical plates, devoted notably to the bladder, the prostate, the urethra and the various pathologies studied. The second volume explicitly announces five plates.
Significant pagination, representing about 1,700 pages of text for the whole. A contemporary medical source from 1851-1852 actually listed the work in three volumes and about 1,728 pages.
Old bindings uniform in half-black leather, boards of marbled paper, spines adorned and gilt-titled. Overall showing normal signs of use and age: rubbing to the bindings, some foxing and small marks inside. The large folding plates are particularly interesting and well preserved overall, with their original folds.
Coherent and complete set of the three parts, of interest for the history of medicine, surgery and especially urology in the 19th century.
