Mariano Montoya was born in 1950 in Tomelloso (Ciudad Real), a land with a notable artistic tradition.

Mostly self-taught, he stood out from the outset for innate technical virtuosity, a clean brushstroke, and an extraordinary ability for drawing and academic composition.

Throughout his career he has adeptly cultivated figurative painting, excelling especially in orientalism, 18th-century gallant scenes, traditional costumbrismo, and figures of majas and carnival scenes.

Reserved in character and distant from mass commercial self-promotion circuits, Montoya focused his career on workshop rigor and selective production.
