Marshal Foch - Memoirs to be used for the history of the War of 1914-1918 - 2 volumes - 1931
Description
Marshal Ferdinand Foch – Memoirs to serve the history of the War of 1914-1918
Paris, Librairie Plon, 1931.
First edition – complete in 2 volumes.
The important memoirs of Marshal Ferdinand Foch (1851–1929), one of the principal Allied military commanders of the First World War and Supreme Allied Commander during the final year of the conflict.
Published posthumously in 1931, these memoirs provide Foch's account of the military operations of 1914–1918, illustrated with numerous contemporary photographs and detailed military maps showing troop movements, fronts, battles and offensives.
Complete with all illustrations and maps:
Volume I: 18 plates and 12 maps
Volume II: 26 plates and 4 maps
In total: 44 plates and 16 maps
Particularly attractive are the large folding military maps, several of which open to an impressive size and give detailed representations of major operations and battlefronts, including the Marne and the German offensives of 1918.
The two volumes are attractively bound in half leather with marbled boards, raised bands and gilt decoration and lettering to the spines.
The bindings show normal signs of age and use, particularly to the edges and corners. The interiors are generally well preserved with some age-related spotting/discolouration. The folding maps are preserved and remain particularly attractive.
A complete and handsome set of Foch's important First World War memoirs, especially desirable for its extensive collection of 16 military maps.
