First illustrated edition in large format, with a GK catalog at the end, the catalog that accompanies this first edition. In the list of the Voyages Extraordinaires, Claudius Bombarnac is still marked with a dagger (†) as a new title.
Illustrated with 55 engravings by L. Benett, 6 large chromotypographic engravings and 2 coloured maps, including the map “From Tiflis to Kachgar.”
With frontispiece “Voyages Extraordinaires – Collection Hetzel.”
Binding: Red cloth publisher's binding (cartonnage) with the highly sought-after flat “au phare” (lighthouse) design, by Paul Souze. Spine with title and decoration, executed by “Ch. Magnier et ses fils rel.”. Back cover with a black rosette and Greek-key border ornamentation. The book has a single title (titre unique) and is therefore not a double volume.
