This work by Vhils adopts a minimalist and highly contemporary aesthetic. A wide white surface contrasts strongly with the black background, while torn edges reveal fine color strata, like fragments of a buried image.
The folds, irregularities and superpositions give the surface an almost sculptural dimension. More conceptual than figurative, the piece plays on erasure, matter and partial revelation, while maintaining a strong visual presence.

The black background intentionally shows subtle texture and density variations, with light marks visible. This is not a defect but a deliberate artistic choice, coherent with the raw, stratified aesthetic characteristic of Vhils' work.
This finish enhances the sense of material and recalls the altered urban surfaces that inspire the artist.

LAYERS is a collection of generative NFTs based on the work that Vhils develops with physical billboards. Uniting the worlds of digital and physical art, this project reveals the subtleties of the artist's creative universe by reproducing the physical practice on the blockchain.

This piece is an original physical work 1/1 resulting from a process of converting an NFT into a physical work, created by the artist and accessible only to top collectors.

The piece will be protected in kraft paper, inserted in a rigid tube, then shipped in a reinforced cardboard box.

Vhils, Portuguese artist born Alexandre Farto, is internationally renowned for his unique technique of creative destruction. Using chisels, explosives, drills or acids, he carves directly into walls to reveal deeply human portraits. His work explores the impact of urban growth, the erasure of identities and the collective memory engraved in matter.

Vhils aligns with engaged artists like Shepard Fairey, whose graphic aesthetic interrogates media power. His conceptual approach aligns with Banksy, master of social satire. The lineage with Blek le Rat, pioneer of stenciling, is evident in his relationship to the city. He also shares the figurative sensitivity of Jef Aérosol, focused on the human. Finally, his mural universe resonates with PichiAvo, a duo blending classical mythology and graffiti.

His work also dialogues with major figures such as JR, Invader, D*Face, C215, JonOne, Sandra Chevrier, Snik, Mr Brainwash, Murakami, Jeff Koons or KAWS, each pushing the boundaries of street art and contemporary visual culture.
