Bert Heersema presents Amy, a 2025 Realist portrait measuring 40×50 cm, hand-signed, weighing 2 kg, originating from the Netherlands and sold directly by the artist, with a certificate of authenticity and a hanging system though not framed, inspired by an old film still from Young at Heart.
Description from the seller
This atmospheric, suggestive portrait from 2025 is not framed but is equipped with a hanging system. The depicted frame provides an indication of how it appears when framed. Based on an old movie still from "Young at Heart," painted in a lively brushwork with an appealing color palette. The work is sent by registered mail and comes with a Certificate of Authenticity. Bert Heersema (married with two children) lives and works in Zwolle, Netherlands.
Statement: By staying away from the actual reality around us, I try to evoke a nostalgic atmosphere. Atmosphere and space are not determined by a multitude of realistic details, but by simplicity, often a sober color palette, so that a particular color accent draws all the attention. Recurring visual features, such as shadows, volumes, accent color, strong contrast, nostalgia, and humor, are important recognizable aspects in my work, where emotions play an increasingly strong role. Through technique, there is a search, with various approaches in technique, to probe the boundaries of recognizability (realism), wherein movie stills from old films (Film Noir) and old documentary material serve as an important source of inspiration and a basis for a starting design. And without losing recognizability and realism, the work must above all be a beautifully painted piece, for the viewer's experience and viewing distance.
