Biedermeier Hand-Painted Blue Glass Casket, 19th Century

An elegant Biedermeier decorative casket, dating from the first half of the 19th century, crafted from richly coloured translucent blue glass.

The cylindrical glass body and fitted lid are finely hand-painted with colourful floral sprays and delicate gilt ornamentation. The decoration features small polychrome flowers and foliage arranged around graceful gilded motifs, characteristic of refined Central European decorative glass of the Biedermeier period.

The box is fitted with a brass mounting and hinged lid, and rests on an attractive decorative metal stand with scrolling supports and ball feet.

A charming example of 19th-century Biedermeier glass, combining vivid colour with delicate hand-painted and gilded decoration. It would originally have served as a small jewellery, trinket or keepsake box.
