Description from the seller
Lot of five polychrome terracotta Purgatory souls, three men, including an ecclesiastic, and two women. Originating from southern Italy, second half of the twentieth century.
The figures emerge from the flames with gestures of supplication, according to a powerful devotional iconography tied to death, atonement and the salvation of the soul.
Small popular sculptures with great character, unusual to find gathered together in a set of five perfectly intact specimens.
A striking Memento Mori, ideal for a collection of sacred art or a Wunderkammer.
In overall good condition. They measure about 6x3.5 cm each.
Proper packaging and fast shipping.
