Antique Art Nouveau Umbrella Stand – Hammered Brass & Bronze – Lion’s Feet – Circa 1900
Very atmospheric and sturdy antique umbrella stand from the early 20th century (circa 1900–1930). A beautiful example of European craftsmanship from the late Jugendstil / early Art Deco period.
The stand is made of solid brass with a characteristic, artisanal hammered (hammered) surface. The whole is completely non-magnetic, indicating the use of high-quality non-ferrous metals. The cylindrical body features horizontal ribs and stands firmly on three decorative feet in the shape of lion’s claws. On the sides are two richly adorned ears with a stylized Jugendstil motif.
Both the feet and the decorative ears are executed in a darker, copper-containing metal (bronze or dark brass alloy). This not only provides a striking contrast but also explains the natural greenish-copper patina (oxidation) visible here and there, particularly in the seams, bottom, and feet. This patina is an authentic sign of age and confirms the antique origin. An ideal and characteristic item for the antique lover or a classic interior.
