Description from the seller

Icon from a Bulgarian school of the twentieth century depicting Saint John the Baptist “Angel of the Desert”.

The Saint, winged, holds his severed head on a tray and the inscription, according to an ancient and rare Eastern iconography.

Hand-painted on a wooden panel, with a gold background and halos, it features a deep color scheme and a pronounced expressiveness of the faces.

An interesting example of the Balkan iconographic tradition, with great visual impact.

In generally good condition. Measures 35x23 cm.

Proper packaging and fast shipping.
