Large-format, richly illustrated English-language travel work about Italy, published toward the end of the 19th century.

In addition to detailed descriptions of the Italian landscapes and sights, the book provides a vivid impression of architecture, art, history, religion, and everyday life in 19th-century Italy.
Particularly notable is the extensive illustration. According to the title page, the work contains over 100 full-page and 300 smaller illustrations. The numerous detailed wood engravings show, among other things, historic city views, churches, monasteries, landscapes, rural scenes, and depictions of the Italian population.
