Description from the seller
Punch Bowl / Jatte in Ironstone "Mason's" - Chinoiserie Decor - Regency Era, ca. 1813-1820**
Magnificent and imposing bowl (or large punch bowl) in fine Ironstone China, originating from Staffordshire, England. This historic piece dates from the very beginning of the 19th century (Regency English period, circa 1813-1820).
The basin and outer walls are adorned with a rich orientalist design (Chinoiserie / Imari style) depicting a large exotic bird surrounded by blooming peonies. The outlines are printed in blue underglaze by transfer, then beautifully enhanced by hand with colored enamels (pink, cobalt blue and bright orange).
On the reverse, the piece bears the rare and precious first blue linear printed stamp: "PATENT IRONSTONE CHINA WARRANTED". This marking matches exactly the very first patent filed by **Charles James Mason in 1813**, used before the later introduction of the famous royal crown on the factory logos.
