Description from the seller

Fascinating and rare Lombard noble portrait, depicting a member of the famous Visconti di Modrone counts, dated in the upper right corner 1782.

The gentleman is depicted in a half-length portrait, strictly dressed in the era's formal evening wear (crimson/red jacket with embroidered details and worked buttons, matching waistcoat, and a white lace cravat), while he holds a small book or notebook with elegant grace, symbolizing culture and erudition.

Historical and collecting details:

Dating: the painting year '1782' is clearly visible in the upper right corner.

Provenance: On the back of the frame is a precious period label with a handwritten inscription:

"Ritratto del Conte Visconti di Modrone – Prov. Villa della Brianza – Restaurato nel 1979 – Rintelato nel 1979".

Technique and Conservation: Oil painting on canvas. The work underwent a professional conservation restoration in 1979 with a re-lining intervention and replacement of the stretcher with tension wedges, ensuring structural stability for decades to come.

Frame: The work is enclosed in a solid and elegant period-style frame, in dark wood with gilded molding that enhances the figure.

Notes on condition:

Displays natural and captivating period craquelure consistent with the 1782 dating and minor conservation retouches dating to the 1979 restoration. Ready to be hung and displayed.

Professional shipping, custom protective packaging, and tracked shipment with express courier.
NO SHIPPING TO USA, UK, AND SWITZERLAND

Provenance: Private collection / Villa della Brianza (formerly Lombard noble collection).

Dimensions of the painting alone: 60 x 43 cm
