The painter and sculptor Peter Robert Keil was born on August 6, 1942 in Züllichau, Pomerania. After starting training as an art locksmith in 1956, he studied from 1959 to 1961 at the Hochschule der Künste in Berlin. He maintained contacts with other well-known artists such as Georg Baselitz and Markus Lüpertz. In the early 1960s he lived and worked in various cities including Paris, London, Berlin and in the USA as well as in Mallorca. During his Spanish period he also met Joan Miró several times in his studio. All these experiences find their way into his extensive oeuvre and testify to a correspondingly broad range of facets. He has been and remains actively involved in various areas of the visual arts. Currently, Peter Robert Keil lives and works again in the USA.
