Landscape of the Emilian countryside under the rain, oil on cardboard, dating to the 1930s, Italy, sold with frame.

AI-assisted summary

Description from the seller

Oil on cardboard - landscape of the Emilia countryside in the rain
Era: early 20th century.
Provenance: Emilia Romagna - Italy
A suggestive large-format painting, depicting an autumn Emilian landscape with a decadentist flavor.
Probably created around the 1930s.
Attributable to Garzia Fioresi (alias Alfredo Grandi, Vigevano 1888 – Bologna 1968), of whom we recognize the dense, tactile brushwork and the choice of subject. Affinities with “La strada di Pizzo Calvo” auctioned by Sant’Agostino Aste, “Paesaggio con figure” and “contadine al lavoro” by Gregory’s, “Senza titolo” agg. by Capitolium Art, “Paesaggio fluviale” agg. by Arcadia, “Paesaggio” visible on MutualArt, “Paesaggio con alberi” of the Bologna History and Memory committee.
The horizontal format, the oil technique on cardboard, and the measurements coincide with numerous other landscapes from the 1920s and 1930s. Fioresi indeed produced many similar landscapes, in an almost obsessive search for nature; the painting is of notable strength, organized in the vast mass of the trees, simple and grandiose in its disarming truth. The painting could be dated to the early 1930s when the painter abandoned portraits and still lifes to paint landscapes characterized by a dense and tactile brushstroke, perhaps after the famous series of views of the Tenimenti della Mesola commissioned by the Società Bonifiche Terreni Ferraresi (1926-27).
The piece appears suitable to elevate a living room or a bedroom, even in a contemporary style.
Dimensions: 68x88 (50x70).
