Set of 5 small Japanese porcelain plates – motif of a figure, plum blossoms and a bird – gilt – Japan, Meiji/Taisho period

Beautiful set of five small antique Japanese porcelain plates, richly decorated by hand.

Each plate features a refined composition combining a flowering plum tree, a small bird, and a traditional Japanese figure, depicted within a polylobed reserve outlined in gold.

The upper part is adorned with different traditional Japanese and geometric motifs, including fans and stylized patterns, in a palette of black, red, light blue, green and gold.

The rim is particularly elegant, with a wide dark border fully enhanced by golden geometric motifs. The abundant use of gilding gives the overall piece a precious and highly decorative character.

On the reverse, each plate bears a vegetal motif painted in green as well as a small red square mark. The five pieces bear the same mark and form a homogeneous set.
