Set of 5 ancient Japanese porcelain plates in polychrome, featuring a phoenix and floral motifs – Japan

A cohesive set of five small antique Japanese porcelain plates, with lightly lobed edges, richly decorated in underglaze blue, red and light blue, with elegant gilt highlights.

The design notably includes phoenixes (hō-ō) accompanied by traditional floral and botanical motifs. The center of each plate is adorned with a stylized floral motif in blue and gold.

The reverse is also decorated in underglaze blue. Each of the five plates bears a four-character mark read as 「大化年製」 (Daika nensei). This mark appears to be an archaizing signature and should not be interpreted as a direct dating of the piece.
