Description from the seller

Dimensions: 103 x 126
Unframed
Oil on canvas
Oil-on-canvas work depicting Madonna and Child by Alessandro Vitali.
It presents in fair conservation, with patina, light signs of aging.
Accompanied by a certificate of authenticity and proven provenance.
Shipping insured and traceable.
Anyone with even a basic familiarity with Central-Northern Italian painting at the turn between the 1500s and 1600s would instantly recognize the matrix of this little panel in excellent preservation.
The composition indeed derives from the analogous panel of Madonna with Child with Saint John the Baptist and Saint Francis, coming from the Brera Pinacoteca and now housed in the Galleria Nazionale delle Marche, a masterpiece by Urbino-born Federico Barocci that scholars place around 1560.
Stylistic analysis points to the hand of one of the most faithful and talented pupils of the Urbino master, the Pesaro-born Alessandro Vitali, who died eighteen years after Barocci.
Note at the lower part of the painting, inverted, the first idea for a portrait.
