7 volumes in small octavo (about 17 x 10 cm): volumes IV, V, VI, VIII, IX, XII and XIV (out of 16).
Great history of Rome by the English historian Laurent Echard (circa 1670-1730), translated into French by Daniel de Larroque and the abbé Desfontaines, then continued up to the capture of Constantinople in 1453. Volume IV contains the history of the emperors from the year of Rome 727 to the year 69 AD. Wood-grain vignette on the title (basket of flowers).
Contemporary bindings in full calf, back with 5 raised bands richly decorated with gilded spandrels, title and volume labels in red morocco, red edges, preserved bookmarks. Volume XIV is in a very similar but slightly different contemporary binding.
Condition: very fine decorative bindings. Heads lightly rubbed or worn, small rubbing to corners and boards. Interior fresh, paper of good quality, occasional foxing. Volumes mismatch, sold as a decorative set or to complete a series.
