Description from the seller
David Law
Photographer-Artist – Creator of contemporary images
Multidisciplinary photographer-artist, author and musician, David Law develops work focused on gaze, presence and the perception of the image in urban space. He first made himself known with a series devoted to shop-window mannequins, integrated into the city through a subtle play of reflections and superimpositions. This exploration of gaze and presence gave birth to an art book published in 2021. Subsequently intrigued by the singular aesthetics of collectible dolls and Japanese figurines, he extends this reflection by staging them in the streets of Paris and other European capitals. Through framing, light and composition, these inanimate models acquire a troubling, almost lifelike presence, questioning our relation to illusion and projection.
New series – Walls of legends
This series pays tribute to iconic figures who have marked history, music, cinema and popular culture. Each portrait, reduced to the essentials, captures in a few powerful contrasts an immediately recognizable identity. Realized with contemporary digital tools and then transposed into a stencil aesthetic, the works belong to the street art tradition, between spontaneity and mastery of gesture. Deep black and raw surfaces evoke direct wall intervention, while imperfections and textures enhance their urban character. Between collective memory and visual expression, this series offers a timeless reading of icons who continue to inhabit our imagination.
Edition & Manufacture
Each work is offered in a limited edition of 8 numbered copies plus 4 artist’s proofs (A.P.), signed by the artist and accompanied by a certificate of authenticity. The prints are produced on aluminum with a built-in back mount. Printed on luminous white vinyl, mounted between two aluminum plates, with soft UV- and humidity-resistant lamination, guaranteeing excellent durability, great stability of colors and a modern, contemporary rendering.
Career
Since 2014, David Law has participated in about twenty Contemporary Art fairs per year in France and Europe. He is also the official photographer and videographer for several organizers of contemporary art fairs. Parallel to his visual activity, he develops work as an author and musician, including 3 novels, a collection of short stories, a comic book, a photographic book and 5 self-produced CDs. A singer-guitarist, he currently performs with the group FRENZY.
