Description from the seller
David Law
Photographer-Artist – Creator of contemporary images
Multidisciplinary photographic artist, author and musician, David Law develops work centered on the gaze, presence and perception of the image in urban space. He first made a name for himself with a series devoted to storefront mannequins, integrated into the city through a subtle play of reflections and superimpositions. This exploration of looking and presence gave birth to an art book published in 2021. Later, intrigued by the singular aesthetics of collectible dolls and Japanese figurines, he continues this reflection by staging them in the streets of Paris and other European capitals. Through framing, light and composition, these inanimate subjects acquire a troubling, almost living presence, questioning our relationship to illusion and projection.
New Series – Walls of legends
This series pays tribute to iconic figures who have shaped history, music, cinema and popular culture. Each portrait, reduced to the essential, captures in a few powerful contrasts an instantly recognizable identity. Realized with contemporary digital tools and then transposed into a stencil-like aesthetic, the works are embedded in the street art tradition, balancing spontaneity and mastery of gesture. Deep black and rough surfaces evoke direct intervention on the wall, while imperfections and textures reinforce their urban character. Between collective memory and visual expression, this series offers a timeless reading of icons still dwelling in our imagination.
Edition & Fabrication
Each work is offered in a limited edition of 8 numbered copies + 4 artist’s proofs (A.P.), signed by the artist and accompanied by a certificate of authenticity. The prints are made on aluminum with a built-in rear hanger. Printing on bright white vinyl, mounted between two aluminum plates, with soft UV- and humidity-resistant lamination, guaranteeing excellent durability, great long-term stability of colors, and a modern, contemporary rendering.
Parcours
Since 2014, David Law participates in about twenty contemporary art fairs per year in France and Europe. He is also the appointed photographer and videographer for several organizers of contemporary art fairs. In parallel with his visual work, he develops a personal and musical career including 3 novels, a collection of short stories, a graphic novel, a photobook and 5 self-produced CDs. A singer-guitarist, he currently performs with the group FRENZY.
