On offer is a genuine rarity for collectors of occultism, Freemasonry and secret philosophy: The monumental first edition of “The Phoenix: An Illustrated Review of Occultism and Philosophy” from the years 1931–1932, published by Hall Publishing Co. in Los Angeles. This historical publication appeared in a strictly limited edition of only 3,000 copies worldwide. The offered copy is a fascinating time capsule from the golden age of the esoteric Renaissance of the early 20th century – only a few years before the founding of Hall's famous Philosophical Research Society in 1934. The large-format Folio work impresses with a deep collection of essays on mysticism, Eastern philosophy and Western occultism. Among the famous chapters are, among others: Albert Pike: The Plato of Freemasonry, The Comte de St.-Germain, The Wheel of Pythagoras, H.P.B. (Madame Blavatsky): The Russian Sphinx, The Great Pyramid. The book is also characterized by its rich adornment with numerous illustrations that visually support the mystical text.
The blue of the binding is slightly faded and the corners are slightly bumped. Inside, top condition.400
