Description from the seller
For sale is the rare, globally limited facsimile edition of the legendary work “The Starlit Mire,” limited to 500 numbered copies. This copy is number 280.
The book contains a collection of aphorisms and prompts for thought, but it is best known for its 10 striking black-and-white illustrations (plates) by the renowned British occultist and artist Austin Osman Spare. The binding is in green original linen with a detailed, gold-embossed illustration of a horned Pan/Satyr head on the front cover as well as a gilded back-title. The edition was issued in the late 1980s by Temple Press, in the milieu of the British occult and post-industrial scene (including Rapid Eye), and today it is a sought-after collector’s item.
The binding is in very good condition, the linen is clean, and the gold embossing on the front is bold and undamaged (see photos). Minor storage marks at the corners. The binding is tight, the pages and the fine protective leaves (tissue guards) before the plates are clean. No handwritten inscriptions or ex-libris.
