Stefano Trapanese - SAN GIACOMO MINORE apostolo (St. James minor apostle)

An art historian of Italian art history, particularly 17th-century Neapolitan painting, Stefano Trapanese draws inspiration from the great Caravaggio (Michelangelo Merisi) and the painters of the Italian Baroque. His paintings are all original oil on canvas. He selects his models, dresses them, and poses them for a portrait.

In the semi-darkness of a barren landscape, James is portrayed in a blocked movement, signed by the right arm which rises to show off the instrument of his martyrdom: an attitude which intervenes to confirm the Apostle's dedication in abandoning himself entirely to the divine plan, so much to be recognized as a "servant of God and of the Lord Jesus Christ" (Jas 1:1). The movement of the right arm is accompanied by that of the left, to show some sheets rolled up in the hand, elevated almost to signify the theological value of the Saint's epistolary commitment. Giacomo is a figure that involves and, at the same time, disturbs in his humanity: an effect, this, supported by a luministic investigation that supports a scrupulous typological analysis, which reveals, once again, the Master's debt to the seventeenth-century painting of naturalistic mould.
The painting comes with a precious hand-gilded wooden frame which increases the size of the painting to 60 cm x 53 cm (19.6 in x 16.9 in) and a brass plate.
