Stoneware vase by Fukuno Michitaka 福野道隆 — Kasama

Cylindrical vase with a bevelled top and asymmetric opening. The body is entirely covered with nunome (布目 — fabric imprint applied to the raw clay before firing). The polychrome decoration combines hexagonal forms in natural beige and orange-red, punctuated by dark medallions with geometric cross-hatch motifs. Decoration executed in a combination of underglaze and overglaze, with multiple successive firings. Accompanied by its signed tomobako and cloth.

Fukuno Michitaka 福野道隆 (1970–)
Ceramist born in Iwatsuki, Saitama Prefecture. Trained under master Itō Azumahiko in Kasama, Ibaraki, from 1993. Full member of the Japan Kogei Association (日本工芸会). Signature technique: nunome (布目), a fabric imprint pressed into raw clay, combined with geometric kasuri-mon (絣文) decoration in red, green and blue, executed across multiple firings. Awards include the Japan Kogei Association Prize (2021), the 40th Anniversary Prize of the Ceramics Section (2012), and the East Japan Section Prize (2006).
