Porcelain vase with an ovoid body and short neck with circular opening edged in brown. White ground. The hand-painted polychrome decoration depicts ripe, open pomegranates (zakuro) on their branch, rendered with precision in yellow, orange and red against light green foliage. Asymmetric composition in the tradition of negative space. Signed. Accompanied by its signed box.

Ceramist specialising in hand-painted Kutani porcelain (Ishikawa Prefecture). Born into a family of potters, trained under master Takegoshi Yoshiyuki, third-generation Kutani. Recognised for his mastery of naturalistic drawing and negative space. His Wild Grape Design Large Plate was selected for the Japan Traditional Art Craft Exhibition. Works held in the collection of the Imperial Household Agency of Japan.
