Description from the seller
Marie-Anne Tibbaut studied plein-air painting with the celebrated Belgian Impressionist Emile Claus. There she met another pupil of Claus: Jenny Montigny, with whom she would remain lifelong friends. She mostly watercolored landscapes with a particular attention to light effects.
With a body of work that balanced between Impressionism and Luminism, she took part in 1894 in an exhibition of the Gentse Cercle Artistique et Littéraire. Also in 1896, 1898, 1901, 1904 and 1912 she exhibited there. But she also exhibited in 1897 at ‘Het kunstverbond der Vlaanderen’ and received solo exhibitions in Salle Taets.
