Laure Placide (1917-2014) is a French painter whose work is fully part of the Second School of Paris movement. Born in Apt, Vaucluse, she spent much of her life capturing the poetry of the landscapes of the South of France, developing a style at the border between expressive figurative and lyrical abstraction.

Renowned for the great sensitivity of her graphic works, Laure Placide handled oil on canvas, Indian ink, wash, and mixed media on paper with equal ease. Her works on paper reveal a remarkable mastery of transparency and movement: a line that is at once free, energetic, and highly fluid. Whether she turns to Provençal landscapes (notably her famous periods inspired by the village of Ménerbes in the Lubéron) or to more abstract compositions, her art is distinguished by a constant search for light and color harmony.
