Magazine rack (2) - Wood, Brass - Two reading holders

Two antique Dutch wall-mounted holders for letters and newspapers, made from a combination of oak wood and brass (yellow copper), ca. 1920-1930

Such mail and newspaper holders were very popular in Dutch households in the first half of the 20th century (approximately 1910–1930) and were often hung in the hallway or kitchen. They reflect the stylistic characteristics of Art Nouveau (Jugendstil) and early Art Deco, recognizable by the swooping lettering, the organic floral and lace motifs (left) and the figurative Dutch scenes (right).

Left model: Characterized by an elegant openwork floral border along the brass plates and graceful, red-inlaid letters in a classical script.

Right model: Decorated with detailed engravings of a reading woman in a landscape with sunrise and sunset, combined with a sleek, geometric typography.

Dimensions: circa 40 cm x 27 cm and 35 cm x 24 cm.

Condition: in excellent condition, on the right one holder has been re-secured. The nails are visible on the back.
