S. Maiocchi (XX) - Cupido con farfalla, da W. Bouguereau

A fascinating oil painting on canvas depicting a young Cupid (or Amorino) with wings, seated on a stone balustrade, caught in the moment as he watches a butterfly. The work is clearly inspired by the famous mythological and academic subjects of the French master William-Adolphe Bouguereau, here reproduced with excellent execution and softness in the chiaroscuro transitions of the flesh. The painting is signed in the lower right corner "S. Maiocchi" and is enriched by a splendid and imposing period wooden frame, richly decorated with gilded details and dark inlays in floral relief. On the back of the canvas there is a white warranty certificate applied at the time of the original sale and a commercial label "Poseidone 30x40" on the frame.
