Description from the seller
MiLo (1976), Netherlands — A Face in Parts
An expressive abstract portrait in which sweeping contours, angular shapes and circular accents come together to suggest a face with an enigmatic character.
A textured off-white and warm ochre field contrasts with deep black, earthy red and vivid orange. Fine lines cross the larger colour planes, connecting and dividing the composition. The eye-like circle and loosely outlined lips offer recognisable features, while the surrounding geometry leaves the figure open to interpretation.
The painting balances bold graphic structure with a weathered, painterly surface. Its asymmetry gives the face a distinctive presence: contemplative, slightly playful and poised between figuration and abstraction.
About the Artist
MiLo is the artist name of Michiel Lodewijk Schepers, a Dutch contemporary artist based in Amsterdam. His work explores the relationship between texture, line and form, moving between abstract compositions and expressive figurative imagery. Contrasting colour fields, layered surfaces and intuitive mark-making are recurring elements in his practice.
