Interesting bone dagger Asmat, an original West Papuan piece made from cassowary bone with jungle fibre and feathers, dating to the mid‑20th century, in excellent condition, 41 cm high, 6 cm wide and 2 cm deep, provenance Private collection and not supplied with a stand.
Description from the seller
This Asmat dagger from West Papua is made of cassowary bone and decorated with jungle fibre, seeds and coloured feathers. The carefully arranged materials give it a striking presence. Worn by an elder man as an object of status, it expressed his standing within the community.
Field-collected in the 1990s, the dagger is in excellent condition, with its decorative elements preserved. A distinctive piece of Asmat material culture and an appealing addition to a collection of Oceanic art.
