Manzoni / Gonin, I Promessi Sposi - Storia della Colonna Infame, second illustrated edition (1869) in Italian, published by Stabilimento Redaelli Dei Fratelli Rechiedei, Milano; 1032 pages; parchment binding; very good condition; with plates (Tavole fuori testo).
Description from the seller
Rare and sought-after second illustrated edition with over 450 splendid wood engravings from the masterwork by Alessandro Manzoni (1785-1873), modeled on the Quarantana, of which it largely reproduces the illustrations by Francesco Gonin, Luigi Bisi, Francesco Moja, Giuseppe Sogni, Luigi and Paolo Riccardi, Massimo d'Azeglio.
Some of the full-page figures, however, were replaced with new illustrations by Tranquillo Cremona and Luigi Borgomainerio, which “confer the notable merit of this edition, which is perhaps rarer than that of ’40” (Parenti, Rarities bibliografiche I, 176); Vismara, Manzoni 40.
Alessandro Manzoni, I Promessi Sposi. Storia milanese del secolo XVII scoperta e rifatta. Seconda edizione illustrata. Storia della Colonna Infame, Milano, Stabilimento Redaelli Dei Fratelli Rechiedei, 1869.
PP.: 1031, (I). COMPLETO.
Esemplare con carte in condizioni complessivamente molto buone, coi consueti segni dell'uso e del tempo.
Legatura novecentesca in piena pergamena con titolo al dorso, molto ben conservata. Fogli di guardia in carta marmorizzata.
