Information about the original brooch.
While shopping with her sister in London in June of 1961, Jackie spotted a sunburst pin in an antique shop, instantly fell in love with it and purchased it. It represented the symbol of King Louis XIV of France, the Sun King. On a side note, this was also Jackie's favorite historical era. Jackie thoroughly enjoyed her Sunburst Brooch and wore it constantly---on the shoulders of overcoats, on jackets, on dresses, and even in her hair. It fast became, along with her Waterfall Earrings, one of her signature pieces. It is easy to see why!
