Wilco C. Poortman is a prominent Dutch author, bibliographer and collector who is known as the authority on Dutch engraved Bibles and historical Bible illustrations. His bibliographic standard works are indispensable for museums, antiquaries and collectors of religious heritage.

Jan Luyken (Johannes Luiken), (164 -1712), was a poet, painter and etcher from the 17th century. He was born the son of the schoolteacher Caspar Luyken and Hester Coores.

When he was 26 years old, he had a religious experience which led him to live a more devout life and he became Mennonite. This was reflected in his poetic work, which became much more edifying. From 1677 he devoted himself to etching and engravings.
