INFORMATION:
February 24, 2023 marked the sad first anniversary of the Russo-Ukrainian conflict.

To mark this date, the Ukrainian post Ukrposhta presented a special stamp and postcard illustrating Banksy’s mural, on a bombed building and painted on the wall of a destroyed house in Borodyanka, Kyiv.

The illustration depicts a boy dressed as a judoka floor-pinning an older man resembling Vladimir Putin, particularly noted for his high level in this martial art.

A visual metaphor highlighting the strength and determination of Ukraine and its people to stand up to their oppressors, even when they are bigger and more armed.

On the left side of the postcard is an inscription "FCK PTN!" (aka "Fuck Putin"), and on the lower right side is the @Banksy logo.

ARTIST BIOGRAPHY
Lyssandre Saint York,
Designer and artist born in the 1970s.
My artistic work sits at the crossroads of two worlds that fascinate me: the raw energy of street art and the visual efficiency of pop art.

I grew up during the rise of the 70s style and Space Age design, a breaking era where furniture abandoned pre-war sobriety to dare organic shapes, plastic, and vibrant colors.
Raised by this bold aesthetic, I naturally first traced my path in design and fashion, creating and selling concepts worldwide for more than 30 years to this day.

This mastery of structure and visual impact then unfolds in my artistic creations. My journey as an artist began through play, composing my early works with Lego bricks under a frame. This artistic approach allowed me to revisit major pop culture icons—from Star Wars heroes to figures like Mario Bros, Mickey, or the emblematic Scrooge McDuck—by mixing luxury-brand symbols with these Lego characters, icons of an entire generation!
I have always enjoyed appropriating these symbols to give them a new dimension.

This work naturally extended to creating sculptures with Banksy’s rebellious graffiti environment, or iconic Art Toy characters. By subverting these sculptures and iconic figures, I play with contrasts to question our desires and our consumerist society.

This conceptual rigor dialogues with the absolute freedom of urban culture. Markers, spray, stencils, paint, drips and textured overlays, but also with other techniques that I blend with the chromatic power of pop art.

My works have thus become a visual collision where 70s anti-conformist design and luxury meet the street’s subversive spontaneity. By juxtaposing and reinventing these collective and cult icons in a graphic and instinctive aesthetic, I offer a nostalgic, double-entendre, impactful, and decidedly contemporary reading of our era with societal themes and minimalist conceptual illustration.
