Description
TYPE I is a personal art project by Pieter Bas Bouwman, who has lived with type 1 diabetes since the age of seven. The work translates a daily reality into a visual language of repetition and rhythm.
At the center is the tension between control and temptation, two forces that continually vie for precedence.
Each piece consists of a box filled with insulin syringes, hand-arranged into a pattern on a wooden substrate. The act of placing them requires patience and precision; the repetition that emerges recalls the routines by which a life is structured, whether or not diabetes is involved.
A plexiglass cover completes the work, temptation that remains visible, but just out of reach.
