TYPE I is a personal art project by Pieter Bas Bouwman, who has lived with type 1 diabetes since he was seven years old. The work translates a daily reality into a visual language of repetition and rhythm.
Central to it is the tension between control and temptation, two forces that constantly contend for priority.
Each work consists of a box filled with insulin syringes, hand-arranged into a pattern on a wooden substrate. The placement requires patience and precision; the repetition that emerges evokes the routines through which a life is structured, whether or not diabetes is involved.
A Plexiglas cover closes the work, a temptation that remains visible, but just out of reach.
