The work presents a tranquil countryside landscape articulated around a path that gently ventures into the composition. Léon Bopp du Pont was a French landscape painter linked to the Bordeaux school of the second half of the 19th century. Born in Bordeaux, he trained with Henri-Joseph Harpignies, a prominent representative of the French landscape tradition, and with the Bordeaux painter-etcher Maxime Lalanne.

From 1876 he participated in the exhibitions of the Société des Amis des Arts de Bordeaux and developed a body of work centered mainly on the landscapes of Gironde, les Landes, the Bassin d’Arcachon, the Aquitaine coast and the French Basque Country.

His painting is part of the French naturalist tradition, with a clear influence from the Barbizon School. His compositions are characterized by direct observation of nature, atmospheric breadth and a particular sensitivity to roads, forests, dunes, riverbanks and rural inland areas of the southwest of France. His landscapes were especially appreciated among collectors and the bourgeoisie of Bordeaux and Arcachon.

Although often cataloged in the art market with the dates 1840-1924, some documentary sources place his birth in Bordeaux in 1848 and his death in 1925, so there is some bibliographic discrepancy regarding his exact dates.

The work retains its frame in a classical style, with mouldings and gilded finishes. It shows signs of age and some losses or wear visible on the painted surface, especially in the sky area, in keeping with its era. The frame will be considered a gift and will not be the subject of any claim.
