Godfried Arnold - History of the churches and sects from the beginning of the New Testament up to the year of Our Lord 1688 [WITHIN] The Year of Our Lord 1500 to 1600.
[WITHIN] Further Explanations about the Histories of the Churches and Sects. Unnecessary in High Dutch, described by the highly learned Lord Godfried Arnold, for this High-Lecturer in the Histories to Giesen. In Low Dutch translated. Decorated with several copper plates by the Lord Romeyn de Hooge.
- Amsterdam, Sebastiaan Petzold, 1701 / Amsterdam, P. en E. Visser, 1729 - first and only edition - second and third parts - (38) + (LXXII) + 868 + (28) pp. / (8) + 768 + (2) + 235 + (20) - original half-leather binding - 36 x 23 cm (FOLIO format)
Condition: original binding somewhat bare on the spines, top- and bottom edges; quires somewhat loose in the block, one page loose, a portion of the portraits missing, a few small stray spots, otherwise noticeably very neat, very clean and very fresh pages; no other spots or stains: very neat and very white paper!).
With eight full-page copper engravings by the famous master engraver Romeyn de Hooge,
including the coveted portraits of Müntzer, Martin Luther, Philip Melanchthon and Menno Simons.
Very high-quality prints, dark and sharp impressions!
