A folio issue (340x260 mm), half blue morocco, boards richly decorated with a polychrome design, spine with raised bands, gilt edges (editorial binding of the period). Proofively rubbed corners otherwise very good overall condition. Light foxing scattered.
New edition embellished with 316 wood engravings
The work retakes the account of the journey undertaken by Hübner from May 14, 1871 to January 13, 1872.
The voyage took Hübner from North America to Japan and China, with stops notably in New York, Washington, Chicago, San Francisco, Yokohama, Tokyo, Kyoto, Nagasaki, Shanghai, Beijing, Hong Kong, Canton and Macao. The author describes the landscapes, the cities, the peoples and the political, economic and social changes he observes along his itinerary.
The narrative is organized around three geographic blocks: North America, Japan and China.
