Description from the seller
Glass-like glazed stoneware mirror featuring roses - CATIDO (Dominique Dupont)
Beautiful circular wall mirror in glazed stoneware (art ceramic) created by the French ceramic artist Dominique Dupont (born 1945), better known by his pseudonym “Catido.” Trained at the École nationale supérieure des Beaux-Arts de Bourges, he notably worked at the famous La Borne pottery hub (Cher) during the 1960s/1970s, before establishing his studio in the Luberon (Vaucluse). His stoneware pieces, with a raw, organic style, are today highly sought after by 20th-century ceramic collectors.
Aesthetic details: The frame features a nuanced glaze unique in tone, with green/bronze and natural earth reflections from a high-temperature firing. It is crowned by a delicate high-relief carved decoration depicting three roses and their foliage.
Marking: Presence of his original golden authenticity label affixed to the back: “CATIDO - Rue Genty - 84240 LA MOTTE-D’AIGUES.” Era: Circa 1960 / 1970.
