Edition illustrated by Louis-Joseph Soulas, limited to 1000 copies, one of 904 on Rives paper. The work, including the cover, is wood-engraved.
This work, published in serial form in 1899, is Le Roy's great success. It was the most published and it was adapted twice for television. Only one other work by Le Roy has been adapted, L'Ennemi de la Mort.
Binding signed Devauchelle, half-maroquin Havana with corners, spine with raised bands, top gilt, covers and spine preserved. Raised bands worn, 2 corners worn.
