A pair of hand-painted porcelain teabaskets with lids in a Meissen/Dresden style, dating to the late 19th century in France (Paris, attributed to Edmé Samson or a contemporary), about 11.5 cm high, 5.5 cm wide and 4 cm deep, with an underglaze blue monogram and gilding wear, and one lid damaged at the flower knop.
Description from the seller
A pair of porcelain tea canisters with lids in the Meissen/Dresden style – 19th century (Paris / Edmé Samson ?)
Description
A particularly beautiful and decorative pair of rectangular porcelain tea canisters (boîtes à thé) with accompanying lids, produced in the second half of the 19th century in the 18th-century style.
The tea canisters are flask-shaped with rounded corners and curved shoulders. On both sides are refined, hand-painted décors:
Front: A romantic, galant scene of a loving couple in a landscape (inspired by Jean-Antoine Watteau and François Boucher).
Sides and rear: Richly painted with multicolored floral bouquets and loose spray flowers.
Gilding: The scenes and corners are set in exuberant rocaille cartouches with réseau work and scrolls in gold.
The bottom bears the well-known underglaze blue monogram with intertwined L’en, the year letter 'A' and painter's mark 'c' – a faithful 19th-century interpretation of the early Sèvres/Vincennes mark from 1753.
Specifications
