A particularly atmospheric vintage collection of six tobacco pipes in a classic wooden pipe rack, with several marked samples of various European origins. Due to the varied wood grains, mouthpieces and pipe shapes, the set has an authentic collector’s look.

Among the pipes is a Big-Ben Crosley – Made in Holland. Big-Ben belongs to the history of the Dutch pipe maker Gubbels from Roermond. The company began producing pipes after World War II and in the 1950s acquired the rights to the name Big Ben. The brand subsequently grew internationally to become one of the best-known Dutch pipe brands.

The designation Crosley is indeed known as a Big-Ben model line: documented specimens bear the same combination of inscriptions “BIG-BEN”, “CROSLEY” and “MADE IN HOLLAND”.

Additionally, in this collection are visible the inscriptions MAGNÉE – OLD BRUYÈRE and GOLDEN AGE – MADE IN FRANCE. The term bruyère refers to briar/wild heath wood, the classic material widely used for high-quality tobacco pipes. The Amsterdam Pipe Museum also documents Dutch Big-Ben pipes made in briar.

The pipes vary clearly in finish: from dark polished wood with black mouthpieces to an example with a striking yellow/transparent mouthpiece. It is precisely this variation that makes the set attractive as a collectible object or decorative ensemble for a study, library or classic interior.

Condition
Used vintage condition with clear age- and use-related signs commensurate with the age and original use. The pipes show signs of use and tobacco/soot buildup and kettle deposits, discoloration, scratches and wear to wood and mouthpieces. On some kettle rims there is more noticeable wear and localized damage. The mouthpieces also show signs of use. The wooden pipe rack has scratches, wear, discoloration and small damages, but still presents itself as a very atmospheric whole.
The pipes have not been restored or technically tested by us and are offered as vintage collectible objects.
