Rare Antique Ottoman Empire Pocket Watch – Late 19th Century
A beautiful and highly decorative antique pocket watch dating from the late 19th century, circa 1850–1900, made for the Ottoman market.
One of the most impressive features of this watch is its exceptionally ornate hand-engraved gilt movement. The movement is beautifully decorated throughout and is a wonderful example of 19th-century watchmaking craftsmanship.
The watch features a traditional key-wound and key-set mechanical movement and is supplied with its winding key.
The porcelain/enamel dial features Ottoman numerals and elegant period hands. It remains in good antique condition, with some small age-related marks and imperfections visible in the photographs.
Another particularly interesting feature is the Ottoman coat of arms / Ottoman insignia engraved inside the case covers, making this a very attractive piece for collectors of Ottoman, Islamic and antique horological items.
The watch has a substantial hunter/savonnette-style case with multiple opening covers. The exterior is finely decorated with traditional engine-turned and floral engraving.
The watch is in working condition and has recently been serviced by a watchmaker. The case covers and clasps open and close correctly.
Considering its age of well over 100 years, the watch has been very well preserved.
