Description from the seller
Laborel, H5 chondrite, France.
The Laborel meteorite is an ordinary H5 chondrite that fell on June 14, 1871 at Les Arnoux, in the commune of Laborel in the Drôme department, France.
Main characteristics:
• Date of fall: observed fall on June 14, 1871, around 8 p.m.
• Phenomenon: A bright bolide crossed the sky, followed by a sonic boom and detonations due to its fragmentation at altitude before the fall of several stones.
• Total mass found: Two stones were seen during their fall but were not discovered until 1895. One weighed 2.66 kg and the other 91 g. In total, about 3.83 kg was ultimately found.
• Classification: Chondrite H5 (an old, primitive rock, rich in iron).
• Discovery: The fall was reported and documented later, notably by Mr. V. Pâquier in 1894, who helped preserve notable samples (such as at the Faculty of Sciences of Grenoble).
You are bidding for this beautiful large polished fragment of 1.865 g (13 x 10 x 6 mm) in a solid glass-covered case and accompanied by a certificate of origin.
