Description from the seller

1970 Ducati Mark 3 Wide Case – Matching numbers

This 1970 Ducati Mark 3 Wide Case is in flawless, perfect condition. The engine is mechanically in excellent order and runs as it should. The motorcycle is fitted with sought-after aluminum Borrani rims, known for their lightweight construction and classic racing pedigree. The Dell'Orto carburetor – a 30mm SS1 unit, correct for these models – provides optimal fuel delivery and performance.

This is not a project or restoration candidate; it is a fully finished specimen, ready to ride or display, from one of Ducati's most celebrated single-cylinder motorcycles. No original seat, this one comes from a Mach 1.

The market for Ducati Mark 3 Wide Case models has remained consistently strong. This is a rare opportunity to acquire a top specimen.

This motorcycle is in perfect mechanical and cosmetic condition, with no defects. The engine runs beautifully, the Borrani wheels are in excellent condition, and the Dell'Orto carburetor is correctly tuned.

Designed by the legendary Fabio Taglioni, Ducati's first overhead-cam head with desmodromic valve actuation appeared in 1955. The desmodromic valve system was a feature of the race versions and would later also be applied to the sportier street models. The first major revision of the original design occurred in 1967, when the 'wide case' block was introduced, with a wider rear engine mount than before and numerous other improvements, of which a stronger connecting rod construction was the most important.

The first of the revised 'wide case' models was the 350 Mark 3, which debuted at the Cologne Show in September 1967, with actual production starting the summer after. The changes to the 'wide case' models were not limited to the rear engine mount; Ducati took the opportunity to adopt a stronger connecting rod and a sturdier crankpin bearing, and to increase the capacity of the lubrication system. The transmission was also improved. In mid-1968, the Mark III was introduced in both a valve-spring and a Desmo version, with the differences between the two remaining almost entirely limited to the cylinder head.

From 1969 the Mark 3s had a single fuel-tank filling opening, and the 1970 model received a speedometer and tachometer on the top yoke rather than in the headlight shell. The Mark 3s were beautifully balanced machines.

What is included:
A box full of extra parts, such as:
electronic ignition (new)
original throttle grip
choke lever

Disclaimer

Catawiki always aims to offer you the best possible buying experience. Our experts virtually review and select every vehicle in line with our submission guidelines and we require our sellers to provide the most accurate description of the vehicle. However, providing a fully detailed analysis of the vehicle is extremely difficult, and close to impossible. To guide you, we ask our sellers to provide information about the vehicle’s condition. Please consider that most vehicles for sale are classic vehicles and they often already have a whole life behind them, meaning that even a condition 1 or 2 vehicle might need maintenance to be ready for the road. It is advised to carefully read our submission guidelines that further describe details about the condition grades and types to manage your expectations. Cars are sold “as is”, meaning as described and in the condition they are in at the time of the sale and without any representation, warranty or assumption of liability of any kind as to the condition by Catawiki or by the seller. The condition of this item is the opinion of the seller and may differ from yours, your local garage, or the dealer’s opinion. This does not automatically mean the car does not conform to its description. Before bidding, please check your local legislation regarding vehicle registration. Neither the seller nor Catawiki is responsible for the registration of the vehicle in your country and will not accept a cancellation for your failure to register the vehicle. We also recommend that, if possible, you arrange a viewing with the seller before placing a bid.
