Beautiful two-volume illustrated set of this edition devoted to the representation of the French presence in colonial territories and to the presentation of the men, the activities, the landscapes and the institutions that then participated in organizing the French colonial empire.
Created in the particular context of the first half of the 20th century, the set belongs to a genre of illustrated popular science literature that seeks to acquaint the metropolitan public with the realities of territories under French administration, notably by highlighting the civil servants, military personnel, administrators, engineers, doctors, teachers, merchants and other staff involved in the colonial enterprise.
The title directly emphasizes the “French colonials,” i.e., the French individuals present overseas and responsible, according to the ideologies of the time, for various administrative, military, economic or social missions.
